Carolyn McCormack was born in Hamilton Ontario. She was the 4th
of 6 children. The family later moved to Dunchurch, which is a
small village northeast of Parry Sound, Ontario. She was introduced
to music early in her life. Her father and his brothers were accomplished
musicians originally from Prince Edward Island. They played throughout
Ontario and Eastern Canada. Some had recorded albums, performed
with the likes of Don Messer, Marie Bottrell, as well as performing
on television and in Nashville.
As a young child, Carolyn began accompanying her father on the
piano and vocally. She started writing songs at the age of 14.
She continued to sing at school, community events, and with her
family. But at the age of 19, her father was killed in an automobile
accident, and she stopped singing and performing for a time.
Later on, family, non-musical career obligations, and responsibilities
took much of Carolyn’s time. However, she continued to write
and sing privately. Over the last 5 years she has had the opportunity
to rededicate her time, interest, and passion for her first love,
and calling…music.
Her father's family played traditional "east coast"
and country music, younger family members were in rock bands,
and the radio played a mix of all styles of music. Because of
Carolyn's exposure to all kinds of music, she is a very diverse
songwriter who has received significant recognition for her
talents. A
finalist in the “Song of the Year” 2003 contest
in Texas for the song, “Is Love the Answer?”,
a winner of the 2004 Northern Ontario MooseTrax Songwriting Competition
for her song“ Heavy Deal Goin’ Down”, which
received airplay on all MooseFM radio stations, and
a nominee in the “Best Acoustic Female” category in
the 2005 Toronto Independent Music Awards.
Carolyn
has performed all over Southern Ontario and her debut album,
“Livin’ Dangerously” has sold in Canada, England,
UK, Portland Oregon, and the States through CDBaby.
Carolyn
has performed and sang in live theatre, commercials, and has
appeared on several daytime talk shows talking about her music.
She is a member of the Songwriters Association of Canada, SOCAN,
and you can find her music at CDBaby, New Music Canada, and
Roots Music Canada.
